The Consultant
Business Today.
Consultants and Motivators are bringing business down.
I thought and still do think this is a little harsh, but read on and I’ll explain what I mean.
Big thinking, Acting Bigger
The most successful companies from 40+ years ago were driven to success by passionate people who wanted to be ‘good’ at what they do and this led to successful companies.
Today that has escalated to ‘great’, they want the company to be ‘great’. What next?
My question is
Is this just the “inflation” of the business world? (By inflation I mean “Really Excited” about something, is now “Super Excited”)
Is it being better than others you need to sound?great?
Is it that thing where to achieve greatness you need to use bigger words?
What about this, The achievers of 40+ yrs ago, the style of person who is still there, only they are naturals at what they do. The great minds… they have the ability to, as Nike says “Just Do It”. I do agree there are those still out there, BUT?more still looking to achieve, and the way they are doing it is to shout how good they are.
Those who need to “Shout” to aspire, to “get there”, are the ones that never will. But they will be seen to be getting there. They are overtly passionate in the public forum, noisy to the extreme.
When they have shouted that they have achieved (weather they have or not) they then sell their methods on line, for massive amounts of money, (usually discounted by up to to 97%, as a special offer that will return to normal price soon). Then they are the consultant!
Name: Joe Smith
Occupation: Consultant/Motivator
I see it everywhere, those who shout loud enough that they “can” usually can’t, or wont prove it till you have paid then for their services.
What follows is very noisy people trying to “out shout” the others, the volume goes up along with expectations to be “extremely successful”
Inflation in business again
This is where we are killing everything with Consultants being hired by companies who need to shout even louder to their people saying “we are achieving” “Being Big” because the consultant told them to. They get advice (correct or incorrect is not for me to say) we are on the Merry-Go-Round, now we are spending more and more time telling everyone how good we are rather than doing! If its not going well, don’t shout that, spend the time working on how to make it better.
There is a disturbing trend that the consultants, motivators or whatever they are, even those who cant do the job that well but “Shout” how well they are doing are failing upwards. Promotions to inflate the ego even further of those who are the loudest, the ones are in the “Boys club” (we all know those festering groups of brown nose-ers).
Business today cant keep going like this. We have been consumed by this now, with the world growing, where more could fail because they feel they need to be seen to be doing rather that actually doing.
